Problem 3

October 28, 2009

My idea for this project is to i guess shine more light in area’s that I feel will be able to show the struggle my character goes through on a daily basis. It is not just in designing a character that he is constantly having to face his experiences, but in everyday life. Why does he wear his glasses? Why does he alway wear the same jacket? Why is it only that one person that help him forget all the troubles in his life and focus on the good stuff? What is it that made him turn out this way? So i will show some more of his past and how that has effected the present time. I will also show more on his dreams for the future. This is where I plan on choosing what era of art will go with what panel. I at this moment do not know. However I do want to show the struggle he has to go though daily. My words are North and South so I am very happy that I get to imply those word in my panel. When i worked at the zoo this summer it always seemed longer to travel up then it did to travel down. The zoo is more up North so in a way it is like walking up a steep hill or mountain. It sucks. South is to me going down hill. It doesn’t take as long. It almost easy. So i want to show where it is that my character has fallen and how he fights to get back up. That he is sad and has a hard time to find happiness. I also wish to show in the middle of where he finds his Mask which is the sunglasses.

There is this guy who was given an assignment to make up a story about a character. He has only a week to create this character and he had to know all the aspect of the character’s life such as who he was, where he lived, what his favorite food was, every tiny detail of the character had to be known. So he went home and thought about what to base his character off of. Everywhere he looked he saw the potential of what could become an amazing character for a story. So he sat down and started to brainstorm his ideas. He thought a cat would make a cool character. One that would be able to have cool adventures and see the world and save a girl, but the guy realized too soon that this cat had been made in other forms before and to remake something that everyone already knows just with a different face would be dumb. So the guy started searching more. He was eating cereal one day and saw a fruit loop fall out of the bowl and thought cool – I can make my character a fruit loop! The guy got all exited about his idea and started jotting down ideas for the fruit loop to do like sing and dance or go on an adventure around the kitchen. However the guy didn’t know how to make something so simple be so animated and cute.

The deadline for the character was coming up and he started to struggle trying to think of objects to make into a cool and interesting character. Something the clients would love. He went to different places in the city to get inspired such as a mall or a park. He would take long drives hoping that somewhere the inspiration he was looking for would hit him in the face. Despite all his attempts nothing seemed good enough. Everything he came up with was somehow, some way done before.

Fed up with the designing process he threw up his paper and pencil yelling very aggravated “Fuck it, I give up!” He went up to his room and slammed the door. The guy went over to his dresser and with his arm slid off all the objects on his dresser and took a hard look into his mirror. “Why is this so goddamn difficult?” he thought out loud, “What am I not getting?”

The guy stood there for many minutes staring into the reflection of the mirror. He knew the answer all along. He just did not want to realize that in order to make a dynamic interesting original character he would have to go into himself to get the inspiration that he was lacking all this time. The only problem was that the experiences he had witnessed in his life were not all that pleasant. In fact his life was very sad. The amount of pain he had experienced throughout his life made it rather difficult to not to make a character it would also had its share of pain. He would have to make a character that was depressing.

However at the same time he knew his life also had happiness. He had someone in his life that made it possible to deal with the pain. She was able to make all the pain disappear. She was able to help him be happy after so many years of suffering. She was the bright light shining at the end of the day which made the him able to keep on going even when it felt impossible at times. The guy knew what to pitch to the client tomorrow. So he sad down and began to write.
